Waffle gets national rookie award
JU freshman sensation Ari Waffle has gained national attention for his recent eight-goal game against VMI.

Waffle, an attacker from Manlius, N.Y., has been named the Cascade Rookie of the Week for his performance in the 13-12 overtime win.

Waffle, the second-leading freshman goal scorer in the nation with 21 goals (29 total points) scored the tying and winning goals teaming up with midfielder Cam Mann on both plays.

“It’s great for Ari and it’s great for our program and it’s reflective of the type of young man that’s coming to Jacksonville to play lacrosse and go to school,’’ coach Guy Van Arsdale said. “We’re proud of him and Ari’s worked hard and some of that work came to light. I’m sure he’d be the first to tell you that on that day a lot of his teammates did a great job of getting him the ball but Ari did a great job getting himself the space and finishing the shot. We’re very proud of Ari.’’
