Tom Dougherty joined the JU men’s rowing program in September, 2012, to assist head coach Jim Mitchell and assistant Montia Rice.

Prior to coming to JU, Dougherty coached at his former high school, Monsignor Bonner, Drexel Hill, Pa., working with the lightweight 4s. "We are excited to have Tom join our coaching staff,’’ Mitchell said. “He is the kind of tireless worker that we look for in a coach, and is he eager to continue to learn. Tom has had some great experiences in the sport, and he will contribute greatly to our program.’’

Dougherty, who began rowing as a freshman in high school, had a stellar career at Marietta College where he was a team captain from 2007-09 .

During his career at Marietta, Dougherty was the Varsity 8 coxswain for three years and the Freshman 8 coxswain his freshmen year.

In addition to his rowing duties he worked the lightweight squad a lot as well.

Doherty’s career has seen him compete in races such as the IRA, Dad Vail, Canadian Henley, SIRA and many others. He has worked with rowers of all skills from the Elites at Penn A.C., Masters at both West Side Rowing Club and Fairmount Rowing Club.

In high school he coxed the Monsignor Bonner varsity lightweights for all four years.
