Rowing prepares for SIRA Regatta

Fresh off another dominant performance at FIRA’s last weekend, the JU rowing program prepares to compete in the Southeast Intercollegiate Rowing Association Regatta on Saturday and Sunday in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
The Men’s Novice 8 consisting of coxswain Andrew Soloway, Mike Vasaya, Brandon Makrides, Tyler Smoot, Chris DeRay, Luke Bauman, Ben Keister, Dan Hutchinson and Nick Spitzer will go at 9:22 a.m. in Heat 3 against Florida, Purdue, Tennessee and Tennessee-Chattanooga. The top three finishers will compete in the AB Semifinal while the remainder of the finishers will compete in the C Semifinal. The Women’s Varsity 4 with coxswain Carolyn Barquist, Caitlin Halloran, Alison Sobiech, Julia Fairchild and Morgan McTiernan will compete at 9:50 a.m. in Heat 1 against Kansas, Purdue, Stetson and Georgia Tech. The top three finishers will compete in the ABC Semifinal, the fourth-place boats will compete in the C Semifinal and all remaining finishers will be eliminated. The Men’s Varsity 8 with coxswain Tom Richards, Dylan Kosten, Richmond Jones, Erich Negaard, Bradley Woodrum, Issac LaCount, Isaiah LaCount, Tyler Humphrey and Stefan Negaard will go at 12:03 p.m. in Heat 2 against LSU, Michigan State, Virginia, Ohio State and Florida. The top three finishers will compete in the AB Semifinal while the remainder of the finishers will compete in the C Semifinal. The Women’s Novice 8 made up of coxswain Leigh Taylor, Jenna Manis, Lynn Samatulski, Allison Justice, Marina Arishina, Lydia Erdelt, Lauren Leone, Maria Ollen-Smith and Sarah Willats will compete at 2:58 p.m. in Heat 1 against Kansas State, Grand Valley State, Alabama and Purdue. The top three finishers will go to the A Final while the remainder of the finishers competes in the B Final. The Men’s Junior Varsity 8 with coxswain Anthony Magro, Andy Davis, Kevin Friedlander, John Gerety, Joey Civello, Chris Ottie, Parker Lawler, Tom Richards and Chris Barse will take to the water at 2:58 p.m. in Heat 1 against Temple, Purdue, Marietta and Dayton. The top three finishers will go to the A Final while the remainder of the finishers competes in the B Final. The Women’s Varsity 8 with coxswain Jamie Goldstein, Stephanie Bechtold, Adelina Anderson, Jennifer Barker, Danielle Fournier, Jill Carmody, Karly Greer, Kelly Burke and Candace Barber will complete the first day of competition at 5:32 p.m. in Heat 2 against Kansas, Purdue, Kansas State, Alabama and Oklahoma. The top three finishers will go to the A Final while the remainder of the finishers competes in the B Final. |
