
The 71st annual regatta features more than 100 colleges and 3,300 rowers from the United States and Canada.
Due to weather conditions in the Philadelphia area, races on Friday were reduced to 1,500-meter time trials instead of individual heats.
The top 18 times in the Men’s Varsity 8, Women’s Varsity 4 and Women’s Freshman/Novice 4 and the top 12 times in the Women’s Pair advanced to tomorrow’s semifinals. The top six marks in the Men’s Junior Varsity 8 set the bar for tomorrow’s final.
The Men’s Varsity 8 with coxswain Tom Richards, Dylan Kosten, Richmond Jones, Eric Negaard, Bradley Woodrum, Issac LaCount, Isaiah LaCount and Tyler Humphrey advanced after placing eighth with a time of 4:06.14. The squad will compete in semifinal - 2 against Loyola, Purdue, Grand Valley State, Delaware and Florida Tech at 7:07 a.m. The top two finishers from each semifinal will then compete for the Richard O’Brien Trophy in the Final at 12 p.m. The rest of the semifinal participants will compete in the Second Final at 2:34 p.m.
The Women’s Varsity 4 with coxswain Jamie Goldstein, Stephanie Bechtold, Danielle Fournier, Jenna Barker and Jill Carmody advanced after placing fifth with a time of 5:05.31. The squad will compete in semifinal - 2 against Colgate, Villanova, Brock, Old Dominion and Drexel at 8:14 a.m. The top two from each semifinal will compete for the Margaret McNiff Trophy in the Final at 12:42 p.m.
The Women’s Pair with Kelly Burke and Karly Greer advanced by placing fifth with a time of 6:20.72. The squad will compete in semifinal - 1 against Vermont, Brock, Oklahoma City, Dayton and Schenectady at 9:24 a.m. The top three from each semifinal will compete in the Final at 1:31 p.m.
The Men’s Junior Varsity 8 consisting of coxswain Anthony Magro, Andy Davis, Kevin Friedlander, John Gerety, Joey Civello, Chris Ottie, Parker Lawler, Wayne Reichard and Chris Barse advanced by placing sixth with a time of 4:35.06 . The squad will compete against Purdue, Delaware, Grand Valley State, Michigan and Temple for the Ernie Bayer Trophy in the Final at 1:10 p.m.
The Women’s Freshman/Novice 4 made up of coxswain Carolyn Barquist, Allison Sobiech, Caitlin Halloran, Jenna Mannis and Marina Arishina missed the cut for tomorrow’s semifinals by placing 31st with a mark of 5:47.17.
