Barker, Burke and Fairchild earn Rowing National Scholar-Athlete Award
Juniors Jennifer Barker, Kelly Burke and Julia Fairchild capped one of the most successful seasons in JU women’s rowing by earning the National Scholar-Athlete Award for outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments as announced by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA).

The award recognizes student-athletes with at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA who have competed in 75 percent of their school’s spring races.

“It is a great accomplishment for Jenna, Kelly and Julia to be named National Scholar Athletes,” said JU women’s head coach Anna Talucci. “All three women worked very hard both on the water and in the classroom and I am glad they are being recognized for their hard work.”

Barker, a sports administration major with a 3.71 GPA, earns the award for the second consecutive year after earning Dean’s List honors and academic all-conference honors for the second straight year.

Burke, an education major with a 3.52 GPA, earns the award for the first time after earning Dean’s List honors and academic all-conference honors. As a sophomore, she was named to the President’s Honor Roll after finishing the year with a perfect 4.0 GPA.

Fairchild, a psychology major with a 3.98 GPA, also garners the award for the first time after receiving Dean’s List honors and academic all-conference honors. As a sophomore, she earned a spot on the President’s Honor Roll after finishing the year with a perfect 4.0 GPA.
