JACKSONVILLE, Fla.--The JU men’s rowing team is sending a boat to the IRA National Championships for just the fourth time in program history. JU’s Varsity 4 is set to compete at the three day regatta on Lake Natoma, Calif. on May 31-June 2.
The Varsity 4 of David Waugh (coxswain), Scott Del Vecchio, Scott Waitley, Preston Weinard, and Brian Cosmillo is the first boat to compete at the national championship since 2010 and only the fourth in the program’s history that dates back to 1956.
“We are excited about the chance to race at the IRA,” said JU men’s head coach Montia Rice. “The guys have been working extremely hard the past couple of weeks in preparing for their national championship race and we have a lot of experience in the boat with two juniors and one senior. It's hard to tell how we will do, as we have yet to race against any of these teams this year, but either way we plan to race hard and do our best to represent Jacksonville University rowing.”
