Men's soccer wins exhibition over UNF

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The JU's men soccer season kicked off with a bang on Thursday night, as the Dolphins knocked off crosstown rival North Florida, 4-2.

The Dolphins jumped out to a commanding 4-0 lead at the half, with two coming from junior forward Sebastian Lindholm.

Junior Phillip Meyner set up Lindholm's first goal just three minutes into the game. Lindholm picked up his second goal of the game later in the first half, scoring off of a pass from Ramak Niakan safi, to put JU ahead 3-0.

Five minutes after the first goal, Stefan Runeman took advantage of a deflection to put the Dolphins ahead by two. Senior Drew Lear wrapped up the scoring in the 40th minute.

UNF got two late consolation goals from Oscar Ortiz and Akil DeFreitas in the second half.

JU out shot the Ospreys 13-12. Goalkeepers Matt Gilman and Joey Sanchez combined to make seven saves.

The Dolphins will be in action again on Friday, going to UCF in their last exhibition before the season opener on Aug. 31, at DePaul.
