Aug. 30, 2007
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The JU men's soccer team opens the 2007 regular season on the road this weekend, traveling to DePaul on Friday at 4 p.m. EST., and then facing off against Loyola-Chicago at 2 p.m. EST. on Sunday.
The Dolphins were picked to finish third in the 2007 A-Sun preseason coaches poll while senior forward Anton Axelsson, senior defender Brian Cocciolo and sophomore midfielder Jonathon Jackson were each named to the preseason all-conference team.
After an impressive 4-2 win against UNF in its season exhibition opener, JU will have momentum on its side heading into its six-game road trip that begins with the season opener.
"We're trying to carry the momentum from our exhibition schedule to the regular season," said JU head coach Mike Johnson. "Although we face a tough road stretch, we can build some confidence with some early wins."
DePaul, a member of the Big East Conference, enters the game on a hot streak of its own having won its two exhibition games. Head coach Craig Blazer returns 10 of his starters from last season.
Loyola-Chicago returns three of its top four scorers from last season, including Keum Sung Kim, Alex Jones, and Michael Ferguson. Head coach Brendan Eitz's squad was picked to finish fourth in the 2007 Horizon League's preseason poll.
