Aug. 31, 2007
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The JU men's soccer team dropped its 2007 regular season opener to DePaul, 2-0, Friday afternoon at Wish Field.
Eric Hermosillo opened the scoring in the 25th minute for the Blue Demons after being assisted by Alex Mangan and Steffen Vroom. Mangan and Vroom linked up again in the 80th minute with Vroom getting his second assist after feeding Mangan.
The Dolphins came close to changing their fortunes in the second half as Ramak Niakan safi's header went just wide of the left post in the 64th minute. Less than two minutes later Riley Butler's header hit off the crossbar.
"We were a few missed opportunities away from making this a different contest," said JU head coach Mike Johnson. "We knew this was going to be a tough stretch to start our season and now we have to get ready for another tough opponent on Sunday."
The game marks the first of a six game road trip to open the season. The Dolphins will return to action again on Sunday against Loyola-Chicago at 2 p.m.
