Oct. 19, 2007
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - JU men's soccer team suffered their second consecutive heartbreaking overtime loss on Friday, falling to Presbyterian, 2-1 at the Ashley Sports Complex.
Senior forward Anton Axelsson blasted his 10th goal of the season into the bottom right hand corner in the 65th minute after he received a pass from freshman midfielder Nedim Hrustic and turned his defender.
The game looked well in hand for the Dolphins until junior forward Jonathan Edmonds managed to head in a cross from senior forward Siega Disasa with only 51 seconds remaining on the clock, drawing the game at 1-1 and forcing it into overtime.
The Dolphins were looking to put the game away quickly in the first period of overtime, but on the counterattack, Presbyterian senior midfielder Brandon Tucker hit a cross into the box that was headed in by unmarked senior midfielder Bennett Cope, giving the Blue Hose the victory in the 93rd minute.
The Dolphins have played four games in eight days and allowed some reserve players to start in order to rest some legs and let them gain some experience before the conference tournament.
The Dolphins will be back in action on Friday, taking on Lipscomb at 7 p.m. in Nashville, Tenn.
