Men’s soccer downs Georgia Southern, 2-0
Sophomore forward Wesley Lartey gave the JU men’s soccer team all the offense it needed after scoring both goals in the Dolphins’ 2-0 win over Georgia Southern at Eagles Field on Sunday afternoon.
The Dolphins (3-4) outshot the Eagles (1-4), 15-to-11, and have out shot their last three opponents in this seven-match road trip.
“It was a good road win,” said JU head coach Mike Johnson. “I liked how we came into a hostile environment and left with a victory. It was nice to have Wesley come off the bench to contribute for our team. Hopefully, we can get continue to play well on the road and get more wins.”
Lartey came off the bench and gave JU a 1-0 lead with his second goal of the season in the 34th minute. He added his second goal of the match in the 78th minute on a breakaway to earn his first multi-goal game of his career.
Senior goalie Joey Sanchez (3-1) added three stops between the posts to earn his second consecutive shutout for JU.
The Dolphins continues their road swing on Thursday, Sept. 25, as they head to face College of Charleston for the Saturn of Charleston/Nike Classic. Kick off is set for 7:30 p.m.
