Men’s soccer wrap weekend with annual alumni game
After more than a two month delay, former JU men’s soccer players finally got a chance to lace up its boots to see if they still had the skills in the annual JU Alumni Game on Saturday at the Ashley Sports Complex.

The match followed the JU/Campbell Atlantic Sun “Game of the Week” battle and was the final event of the campus homecoming weekend.

Former JU players Rich Blackburn, Brian Blackburn, Steve Command, Bo Simic, Tony Loughman, Tony Powell, Justin Lloyd, Alfred Mayne-Nicholls, Greg Williams, Steve Ando, Vuk Glisic, Scott King and Michael Lanier all came back to play in the match and enjoyed a meal from Bono’s Barbeque.

“This was a nice event for everyone who was involved,” said JU head coach Mike Johnson. “I was happy to see so many former guys come back to watch our match and play afterwards. It was great for our team to mingle with some of the guys who made JU into the successful program that it is.”

The match ended in a 3-3 tie, but the current Dolphins pulled off a win in an impromptu penalty kick session to hold off the Alumni squad.

“The passion and dedication the soccer alumni have for helping the men’s soccer program succeed is truly amazing,” said JU director of athletic development Kelli Skodinski. “Without the help of alumni like Tony Loughman and Tony Powell, the alumni game would not have had the attendance it did.”

The current Dolphins return to action on Friday as they face Stetson in DeLand, Fla. at 7 p.m. If you’re a former JU men’s soccer player, stay up to date with the Dolphins through or by joining the Golden Goal Association.
