Men's soccer signees enjoying success during the summer
JU men’s soccer newcomers Max Cainkar, Martin Resch, Brenden Abernethy and Trey Collins are each enjoying success during the summer before joining the Dolphins for the first time this fall.

Cainkar (Chicago, Ill.) and Resch (Porsgrunn, Norway) have each led their club teams to respective National Championship berths.

Cainkar is with Shattuck St. Mary’s at the United States Youth Soccer National Championship series in the U-18 division.He played at the US Club Soccer level for the Shattuck St. Mary’s in Minnesota for the last few seasons and was a runner up on the U-17 Nationals.

Resch captained his U-19 Odd Greenland squad to the National Championships in Norway. He is one of two players from Norway in the 2010 signee class that was a starter at the Odd Greenland Youth Academy and in the U-15 Norwegian national team pool.

Abernethy (Fort Myers, Fla.) and Collins (Melbourne, Fla.) were each named regional All-America by ESPN Rise.com.

Abernethy, who played at Bishop Verot High School in Fort Myers, Fla., earned first team all-area and all-state honors after helping his school to a state championship in 2009. He was also a 2010 Florida High School All-Star and played his club soccer for the Lee County Strikers.

Collins played at Melbourne High School and helped the squad to two state championships along with a No. 1 ranking in the ESPN Rise poll. He also guided his club team, the Brevard FC, to a pair of Region III Premier titles.

“We are excited these guys get to compete at this level in the summer,” said JU head coach Mike Johnson. “This success with their club teams will help the guys get ready for the 2010 season. We look forward to all these guys coming in and competing right away.”

The Dolphins report as a team on August 13 for fall camp. They will play exhibition matches against USF (Aug. 18) and Flagler (Aug. 22) to prepare for the season opener at UCF on Sept. 1.
