Men’s soccer defeats UNC Greensboro at Elon Classic, 2-1
The JU men’s soccer team used two first half goals and a good defensive effort to down UNC Greensboro, 2-1, in the first game of the Elon Classic on Friday in Elon, N.C.

The Dolphins (3-1) got scores from juniors Anthony Forde (8’) and Darko Karamatic (27th), while junior goalie Johnny Foley added six saves to help secure the win.

“This was a good win against a good program,” said JU head coach Mike Johnson. “I’m glad we got the early lead instead of playing from behind again. I was also pleased with how our defense stepped up after that penalty kick. Overall, I like how we are starting to put things together and hopefully we will keep it up.”

The Spartans (1-2) got their late goal from Eli Garner in the 75th minute and finished with a game-high 14 shots.

In the first half, Forde gave the Dolphins an early 1-0 lead less than 10 minutes into the match after banging the ball into the net off the post from 10 yards out on a pass from junior Daniele Campailla.

The Dolphins doubled their lead to 2-0 at 27:25 when Karamatic scored on a long free kick to the far corner of the net.

The Spartans couldn’t get on the board in the first half as Foley saved four of their six shots at the net.

In the second half, the Spartans finally got on the board in the 75th minute after Garner scored on a penalty kick to make it a 2-1 contest.

UNC Greensboro had three more shot attempts, but each opportunity went wide and JU held on for the win.

The Dolphins will close the weekend against the host Phoenix on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Fans can follow the match through live stats on
