TALES FROM THE BACKLINE:"Miami, here we come"
This week, we will be traveling to Miami to play FIU and FAU. Last weekend, we took a step in the right direction with a win over a good UMass team. Finally, we got our first win on Sunday and now we hope this will lead to a winning streak.

Although we did not play our best game, I was glad to see a lot of people contributing who had not seen a lot of minutes so far. Nick Rodriguez even scored his first collegiate goal. This did not surprise me because I see him doing these shots at practice every day. Nevertheless, it has been a while since I’ve seen such a goal. I’m glad to see all the additional workouts in the gym for Nicky finally paid off.

After the tough loss against UCF last week, this 2-0 win against UMass showed that one of our strengths this season is our deep roster. Starters can be replaced and everyone can contribute to the team’s success. But we cannot rest now. We have to keep looking to improve individually and as a team. I hope we will have short but sharp practices this week so we can drive down to Miami with fresh legs and a lot of self confidence.

There is still a lot of room for improvement in every aspect of our game, but I am really positive that we can accomplish something this year. Last year we struggled against teams such as FAU or FIU, but this year we are ready and determined.

It will not be easy, yet the road trip to Miami will show if we can make the next step in our development process. But there is one thing I could notice already; the 2011 Dolphins seem to be tougher than the years before. Some ‘phins are wounded or are swimming around with big scars in their faces (feel better, Ashton) but we will keep swimming until we attain our season goals. The waves might get higher and sometimes we might have to go against the current, though we will neither give up nor stop fighting for each other. No Dolphins will be left behind.

Hopefully, we will also be able to welcome our last missing piece in goalie Gavin Carlin soon, as his addition will only make us deeper.

Fear the Fin!
