JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville men’s soccer team hits the road for its first away game of the season to face Wofford Saturday at 1 p.m.
“While this is our first road trip of the regular season, all three of our preseason games were on the road,” said Head Coach Ryan Pratt. “We are well-versed in our routine and are very comfortable with it.”
With the first win of the season under their belt, the Dolphins hope to continue to put their early offensive struggles behind them. Last week’s triumph over Grand Canyon was a total team effort and proved JU can get quality minutes from both veterans and rookies. The team hinges on a balanced attack from reigning A-Sun Player of the Week Nick Rodriguez, as well as forward Matheus Saroli. Freshmen Valentine Murombo and Jack Burns are also stepping up and looking to create scoring opportunities.
While their record of 1-3-1 may not seem threatening, the Terriers are one of the top scoring teams in the Southern Conference. Wofford and Elon are tied for the most goals on the season (9), and three players have accounted for at least two goals. The Dolphins should keep an eye on Connor Davis. The junior midfielder scored his third goal of the season on Wednesday and looks to push forward in support at the slightest opportunity.
If last week’s win over GCU was any indication, then Pratt and his crew have much bigger things ahead. “We are a very young team who are coming together very well. The attitudes of the guys have been great, and the competition and eagerness in training has really helped move our group along. Our guys are excited to get back on the field and look forward to an improved performance over our last outing.”
