Jacksonville Men’s Soccer Drops 2-0 Decision to FIU
MIAMI, Fla.- Outshot by the Panthers, 23-7, the Jacksonville men’s soccer team fell on the road to Florida International by a score of 2-0 on Sunday evening. In the loss, the Dolphins drop to 1-4-1 while the Panthers improve to 3-4-1.
A very intense and gritty game, both teams were held scoreless through the first half. Sharing 20 fouls in the first frame alone, a shot didn’t occur from either side until the 26th minute.
With two Dolphin players removed from the game in the second period on red cards, the team fell into an offensive and defensive rut and was held to just two shots.
FIU scored its first goal with 78:20 on the clock after freshman Marvin Hezel connected on a header sent his direction from a corner kick. Later capitalizing on its two-man advantage, FIU sealed the win on a goal from freshman Seth McFarlane with eight seconds left in the match.
Making his first start of the season in the net for JU was senior keeper Gavin Carlin who registered six saves on the night. Senior midfielder Nick Rodriguez again led the team in shots (3) with each of them being on the mark but saved.
JU returns home to Southern Oak Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 28 to face Belmont.
