Patrick Cannon Joins Men's Soccer Staff

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Newly announced assistant men’s soccer coach Pat Cannon brings over a decade of experience both on and off the field to the Jacksonville family.  

"I'm very excited to welcome Pat into our JU soccer family," said Head Coach Mauricio Ruiz."Pat's experience coaching in the college game, in the Jacksonville community and his relationships in the southeast of the country, will be major contributors to our JU program."

He presently serves as the head coach of the Jacksonville United’s National Premier Soccer League team. Taking the reins in 2011, the squad won a national championship in his first year. During that time, he also spent two seasons as the assistant coach for the University of North Florida. 

Heavily involved with First Coast Soccer and Jacksonville FC youth clubs, Cannon is currently the Boys’ Director of Coaching at Jacksonville FC.

A Florida native, Cannon was a standout high school player at Duncan U. Fletcher High School in Neptune Beach. En route to finishing his prep career as the school’s all-time points record holder, he was named to the All- State team during the 1996, 1997 and 1998 seasons, earned NSCAA All-South Region in 1997 and 1998 and was tabbed the Florida Times-Union Player of the Year in 1998.

Cannon was also a member of the University of West Florida men’s soccer team from 1998-01. Finishing his collegiate career as the all-time assists record holder earned him a spot on the UWF Hall of Fame in 2011. As an Argonaut, he was named to the First Team All-Gulf South Conference in 1999, 2000 and 2001, and earned First Team NSCAA All-South Region honors in 2000 and 2001. He was also placed on the Gulf South Conference All-Tournament Team in 2000 and was dubbed the GSC Tournament Most Valuable Player in 2001. To top his many accomplishments, he also received a spot on the Gulf South Conference All-Decade Team.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in Environmental Policy from West Florida in 2002. Away from soccer, Cannon served as an Environmental Scientist for Environmental Resource Solutions, Inc. from August 2002 to 2011.
