JU freshman forward Carlos Serrano (Orange Park, Fla.) scored the first goal of his career and junior defender Steve Command (Brighton, Mich.) scored his first goal of the season, as the Dolphins shocked the Bears, 2-0, Thursday evening in an action-packed Atlantic Sun conference matchup. The win improves the Dolphins to 4-1-1 overall and 2-1-in A-Sun competition. Mercer falls to 5-4 overall and 3-2 in A-Sun play.

Command broke the scoreless tie in the 13th minute, when he took sophomore midfielder Sean Steed's (Kissimmee, Fla.) crossed free kick and shot a bullet past the Mercer goalie, putting JU up 1-0. After many opportunities by both teams, the Dolphins put the game away as Serrano scored in the 71st minute when he blocked a Mercer attempt to clear the ball out of the net back into the net to give JU a 2-0 advantage.

Junior goalie Mike Miller (East Brunswick, N.J.) and JU's steady defense were able to hold the Mercer offense at bay while keeping Mercer's Neil Zarac, the league's top point and goal scorer relatively quiet, as Miller collected his third shutout of the season and second consecutive shutout.

The Dolphins return to action at Ashley Sports Complex on Saturday, October 6, against Atlantic Sun opponent Georgia State at 5:00 p.m.
