Oct. 8, 2001

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - JU freshman forward Carlos Serrano (Orange Park, Fla.) was named the Atlantic Sun men's Soccer Offensive Player of the week and junior goalkeeper Mike Miller (East Brunswick, N.J.) claimed Atlantic Sun men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week this afternoon, as announced by the league office. The duo led the Dolphins to an undefeated week with key conference wins over preseason favorite Mercer, 2-0 and defending A-Sun champ, Georgia State, 5-1. Serrano scored two goals and added an assist, while Miller recorded his third shutout of the season, as JU surged to the top of the Atlantic Sun rankings with a 5-1-1 overall record, including a 3-1-1 mark in conference play.

Serrano was the catalyst in the Dolphins' seven-goal week, scoring three goals and dishing out an assist. The Orange Park, Florida native scored his first goal in collegiate competition in the Dolphins' 2-0 win over Mercer on Thursday. He followed that performance on Saturday with two goals and an assist against Georgia State as he led the Dolphins to an impressive 5-1 victory over the Panthers. Serrano is currently ranked 10th in the conference in scoring.

Miller continued his success in goal this season, recording his third shutout of the season in the win against Mercer, while allowing only one goal in JU's 5-1 victory over Georgia State, while making seven saves. The New Jersey native currently leads the A-Sun in Goals Allowed Average, allowing just five goals in 660 minutes.

The Dolphins, who are on a four-game unbeaten streak, return to action on Wednesday, October 10, at North Florida, at 7:30 p.m.
