Men's Soccer Defeated, 4-2, By Crosstown Rival UNF
Oct. 10, 2001
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -
Jacksonville 1 1 2 North Florida 2 2 4
JU sophomore forward Hamdy Bonin (Lower Caldecote, England) scored two goals, but it wasn't enough to hold off UNF's attack as the Osprey's defeated the Dolphins, 4-2, Wednesday evening at UNF Soccer Field. The loss ends the Dolphins' four-match unbeaten streak and drops them to 5-2-1. UNF improves to 5-3-2.
The Ospreys got on the board first, when Colm Kierans scored the first of his two goals, off of a deflection by Dolphin junior goalkeeper Mike Miller (East Brunswick, N.J.), for an early 1-0 lead. The Dolphins, who played without the services of starters senior midfielder and team captain Justin Lloyd (Cocoa, Fla.), sophomore defender Paul Kelley (Peachtree City, Ga.) and sophomore defender Stephen Decker (Gainesville, Fla.), bounced back, scoring in the 30th minute, as Bonin scored the equalizer, taking a through-ball from sophomore midfielder Sean Steed (Kissimmee, Fla.) and slipping a shot past the UNF keeper inside the right post. However, it would take the Ospreys only 41 seconds to regain the lead on a goal by Terry Peak. UNF's Niclas Ek scored in the 60th minute to put the Ospreys up 3-1. Kierans would score his second goal to give UNF a commanding 4-1 lead in the 70th minute. The Dolphins cut the lead in half, 4-2, in the 88th minute when Bonin scored his team-high fifth goal.
The Dolphins return to action when they travel to Miami to take on A-Sun foe Florida Atlantic on Wednesday, October 17 at 7:30 p.m.
