Men's Soccer Tabbed Third In A-Sun Preseason Coaches Poll

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville University men's soccer team received two first place votes and was picked to finish third in the 2002 Atlantic Sun Conference preseason poll voted on by the A-Sun head coaches, the league office announced today. UCF, who finished fifth last season with an overall mark of 12-7 and a 4-3 record in conference play, was tabbed as the favorite.

The Dolphins return 19 players, including seven starters and nine of the 11 that started in last year's A-Sun Championship match. JU finished 8-6-1 overall, 4-2-1 in A-Sun play under first year head coach Bob Moullin.

Defending regular season co-champion Stetson was picked to finish second, followed by Georgia State, Jacksonville, Mercer, Florida Atlantic, Campbell, Gardner-Webb and Belmont, respectively.

JU begins play with an exhibition game at Thomas College on Aug. 21 and then hosts an exhibition game against Embry-Riddle on Aug. 24. The Dolphins kick off the regular season against Brewton-Parker at the Ashley Sports Complex on the JU campus on Aug. 30 at 5:00 p.m.
