Jacksonville, Fla. - The Jacksonville University men's soccer team shutout Brewton-Parker College, 3-0, Friday afternoon at the Ashley Sports Complex in its 2002 regular season opener, despite playing in wet, rainy conditions the entire game. Sophomores Richard Blackburn (Jacksonville, Fla.) and Carlos Serrano (Jacksonville, Fla.) each had a goal and an assist to lead the Dolphins.

JU (1-0) scored in the 1st minute of the game, as sophomore Ryan Potts (Winter Park, Fla.) took a deflection off a Barons defender and sent a rocket past Brewton-Parker (0-1) goalkeeper Ryan Dees to put the Dolphins ahead, 1-0. Blackburn gave the Dolphins a 2-0 lead heading into halftime, as he scored on a header off a nice flip pass from Serrano.

In the second half, Serrano scored the Dolphins' third goal in the 61st minute, as he took a nice feed from Blackburn which left him alone with Barons keeper Dees. Serrano made a nifty move to get past Dees and scored on an open net to make the score 3-0 in favor of JU. Junior Greg Williams (Hopewell, N.Y.), making his first career start in goal, played the entire game and made four saves.

The Dolphins travel to Columbia, S.C. on Monday to take on the No. 13 South Carolina Gamecocks at 2 p.m.
