JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Sophomore Carlos Serrano (Jacksonville, Fla.) scored the Dolphins' only goal in their 1-0 shut out victory over UCF Sunday afternoon in their Atlantic Sun Conference opener at the Ashley Sports Complex. The win extends the Dolphins' (5-2-1, 1-0-0 A-Sun) unbeaten streak to five games, winning their last three.
In the first half, junior Stephen Decker (Gainesville, Fla.) lofted a perfect pass to a streaking Serrano that fell just beyond two Golden Knight defenders and Serrano blasted a shot just inside the box to put JU ahead 1-0.
The Golden Knights were relentless on the offensive attack in the second half, taking 13 shots to JU's one and attempting eight corner kicks, keeping the ball in the Dolphins' end for the majority of the half. The Dolphins were able to deny every Golden Knight attempt and hold on for the 1-0 victory. JU keeper Greg Williams (Hopewell, N.Y.) made three saves in recording his third shut out of the season.
The Dolphins return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 2, as they travel to Deland, Fla. to take on the Stetson Hatters at the Stetson Soccer Complex at 4 p.m.
