JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville University men's soccer fell to North Florida, 1-0, in the inaugural Dennis Viollet Memorial Cup Wednesday afternoon at the Ashley Sports Complex. Following the game, the Ospreys were awarded the 2002 Dennis Viollet Cup by Dennis' wife, Helen. Junior keeper Greg Williams (Hopewell, N.Y.) recorded two saves for the Dolphins, who attempted four corner kicks to the Ospreys one in the second half, but were unable to capitalize on any opportunity.
In the second half, freshman Eric Arbuzow played a perfect ball into the box to freshman Guillermo Galiano who played the ball just inside the near post for the lone score.
Neither team could find their offensive rhythm in the first half, as the two teams combined for just three shots. The hard-fought, physical match between the two teams resulted in a combined 39 fouls and five cautions.
The Dolphins return to action on Saturday, Oct. 12, as they host the Campbell Fighting Camels in Atlantic Sun action at the Ashley Sports Complex at 4 p.m.
