JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - JU sophomore forward Richard Blackburn (Jacksonville, Fla.) scored the Dolphins' lone goal, as JU tied Georgia State, 1-1, in Atlantic Sun action Friday afternoon at the Panthersville Soccer Complex. The Panthers were the beneficiary of an own goal in the second half as JU is now 7-4-2 overall and 3-1-1 in conference play, remaining unbeaten in its last three A-Sun matches.
Blackburn scored his third goal in as many games in the 38th minute, taking a pass from freshman Dion Jagroo (Orlando, Fla.) and sending it past Panthers' keeper J.B. Wood on the right side for the 1-0 lead at the half. In the second half, the Panthers' Justin Towns tied the game in the 65th minute as his shot deflected off a Dolphin defender, resulting in the own goal, knotting the score 1-1.
The two teams battled through two overtime periods, but neither was able to break the tie. JU keeper Greg Williams (Hopewell, N.Y.) made five saves.
The Dolphins return to action on Sunday as they travel to Macon, Ga., to take on the Mercer Bears in Atlantic Sun action at 7 p.m.
