JU sophomore Ryan Potts (Winter park, Fla.) scored two goals, including the gamewinner in the 78th minute, as Jacksonville held on for a 3-2 win over Belmont in Atlantic Sun Conference action on Saturday in Nashville. With the win, the Dolphins improve to 8-5-2 overall, 4-2-1 in league play while snapping a two-game winless streak.

With the match tied at 2-2 in the second half, JU sophomore Richard Blackburn (Jacksonville, Fla.), who leads the Atlantic Sun with 10 assists, found Potts in the middle of the box for his second goal of the match.

JU shocked the Bruins (4-8-2, 2-5-1 A-Sun) right out of the gate when a quick restart following a Belmont foul just outside of the penalty box resulted in a Sean Steed (Kissimmee, Fla.) goal in the fourth minute. The Dolphins capitalized on another Belmont mistake in the 20th minute when Potts scored the first of two goals on a shot from the six-yard mark to give the Dolphins an early 2-0 lead.

However, Belmont answered with two quick goals of its own when Fernando Castellanos score a pair of goals in a 34-second span in the 39th minute to tie the match. The second half remained scoreless until the 78th minute when Blackburn and Potts hooked up for the game-winning play. The Bruins out-shot the Dolphins, 23-14, but JU keeper Greg Williams (Hopewell, N.Y.) made five saves to improve to 8-5-2 on the season. Belmont keeper Matt Renfrow had five saves in the loss.

The Dolphins return to Atlantic Sun action on Sunday against Lipscomb in Nashville at 1 p.m., before wrapping up the regular season against Florida Atlantic on Nov. 6 at the Ashley Sports Complex.
