Nov. 11, 2002

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville University senior defender Steve Command (Brighton, Mich.) was named Atlantic Sun Defensive Soccer Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday. Command is one of only two players in the conference to earn Defensive Player-of-the-Week honors twice this season. Command scored the game-winning goal in the 98th minute, giving JU a 2-1 victory over Florida Atlantic Wednesday and clinching a spot in the 2002 Atlantic Sun Championship Nov. 15-16 in Boca Raton.

Command, returning to the starting lineup on Senior Day after missing the last eight games due to an injury, scored his league-leading third game-winning goal eight minutes into the first overtime as JU finished the regular season 10-5-2 overall and 5-2-1 in conference play. It was Command's fifth goal in nine games, ranking him third on the team in goals and points with 10.

Second-seeded JU will face third-seeded UCF on Friday at 4:30 p.m. in the semifinals of the Atlantic Sun Championship at FAU Field in Boca Raton.
