Men's Soccer Picked Fifth in A-Sun Preseason Poll

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - JU men's soccer was picked to finish fifth in the Atlantic Sun conference, according to the preseason coaches poll released by the league office today. Last season, the Dolphins finished 8-8-1 under head coach Mike Johnson.

Mercer, who lost to UCF in last year's A-Sun tournament final, was selected to finish first with 76 votes. Florida Atlantic was a close in second with 69 points, while Stetson, Belmont and Jacksonville rounded out the top five. Campbell, Gardner-Webb, North Florida and Lipscomb made up the rest of the poll.

The Dolphins return six starters, including 2004 All-Atlantic Sun First Team and NSCAA /Adidas All-South Third Team selection forward Tommy Krizanovic (Jacksonville/Englewood). Also returning is senior midfielder Brian Blackburn (Orange Park, Fla.) and sophomore defender John Marquart (Huntsville, Texas). Marquart was selected to 2004 Atlantic Sun All-Freshman Team, while Blackburn was tied for the third on the team in assists with four.

JU opens the 2005 season with an exhibition match against Embry-Riddle at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 21, at the Ashley Sports Complex.
