Men's soccer uses second-half offensive surge to defeat Flagler, 7-3

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- - The Jacksonville University Men's Soccer team scored five goals in the second half to defeat Flagler in the season-opener, 7-3, Thursday afternoon at the Ashley Sports Complex. Junior forward Tommy Krizanovic added three goals for the Dolphins, while freshman midfielder Anton Axelsson scored two goals.
"I'm really proud of how the guys played in the second half today," said head coach Mike Johson. We challenged our kids at the half and they showed a lot of character by stepping up like they did. Tommy [Krizanovic] set the tone today by scoring three goals."
At the 30:45 mark in the first half, Krizanovic scored his first goal of the day from assist by Axelsson to give the Dolphins (1-0) the early 1-0 lead. Krizanovic extended the Dolphins the lead by scoring on a floater pass from freshman defender Patrik Werner.
Flagler (0-2) battled back and scored two goals to tie the game at two apiece. Jorgen Rostern scored on a straight shot with 12:60 remaining in the first half by an assist from Sean Frye. Shortly after that goal, Andres Jaramillo scored an unassisted goal to tie the game for the Saints.
Less than four minutes into the second half, Krizanovic broke the tie by scoring on a header with an assist by senior defender Brian Blackburn. Axxelson scored the first of his two second half goals at the 16:50 mark on a straight shot on goal with an assist from Drew Lear.
Sophomore Jesse Kehoe, freshman Bosho Maric and Axelsson helped put the game away for the Dolphins in the second half by each scoring a goal in less than five minutes.
Sophomore Loren Schumard recorded four saves in his first start of the season for the Dolphins.
The Dolphins travel to play against USF on Sunday at 7 p.m.
