Men's soccer travels to the West Coast this Friday
Sept. 22, 2005
JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- - The Jacksonville University men's soccer team is planning to flip coasts on Friday as they travel to West Coast to compete in the Gonzaga Nike Classic.
The Dolphins (3-3-0) will face host Gonzaga on Friday at 7 p.m. They wrap up the tournament on Sunday against Oregon State at noon.
"This is another challenge for us in our non-conference schedule," said head coach Mike Johnson. "It will be nice to go out to a different region to see how you stack up against their teams."
The Dolphins come into the tournament after splitting games at the UCF/Adidas Classic last weekend. They defeated Hofstra, 2-1, last Friday and later fell to #23 Davidson, 3-0, on Sunday. Junior Tommy Krizanovic scored both goals in the Hofstra victory.
Gonzaga (2-2-1) comes into the tournament after falling in their home-opener to Oregon State, 2-1, on Tuesday. Sophomore George Josten scored the lone goal for the Bulldogs. Junior Bryan Jordan scored both goals for Oregon State (3-2-3) in the win.
"They are both very good teams," Johnson said. "Oregon State tied #1 Indiana. If we could get a pick up wins out there then we will climb into the national spotlight."
