Men's soccer takes on cross-town rival UNF Tomorrow

Nov. 3, 2005

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- - The Jacksonville men's soccer team will meet cross-town rival UNF for the fourth annual Dennis Violett Memorial Cup at 7 p.m. tomorrow at the Ashley Sports Complex. This will be the 12th meeting between the two schools, but it will mark the first time the two schools play each other at the Division I level.

The Cup honors former Dolphins and Ospreys soccer coach Dennis Violett who passed away in the spring of 1999. Violett spent six seasons (1990-95) as the Dolphins head coach, while also spending time as the club soccer coach for the Ospreys. He also played 12 seasons for the Manchester United.

The Dolphins (6-9-2, 2-4-1 A-Sun) won their first-ever Violett Cup last season when senior Brian Blackburn scored the game-winning goal in the 82-minute to give the Dolphins the 3-2 victory.

On Tuesday, the Dolphins forced a 2-2 tie with Wofford after Junior Tommy Krizanovic and sophomore Anton Axelsson each scored a goal. Freshman Akeem Priestley, who was recently named Atlantic Sun Conference "Offensive Player of the Week," has scored a goal in five of the last seven games.

The Ospreys (3-9-1, 3-4-0 A-Sun) look to bounce back from a pair of 1-0 losses to Belmont and Florida Atlantic.
