Men's soccer falls to Flagler, 3-0
Sept. 10, 2006
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Flagler scored two first-half goals to help down the Jacksonville University men's soccer team, 3-0, on Sunday night in St. Augustine, Fla.
"We just couldn't get our shots to fall tonight," said JU head coach Mike Johnson. "Our defense came out flat and it hurt us. We have to be balanced on both sides of the ball to win games. We are going to work hard in practice this week and look forward to getting back in the win column on Friday."
Fredrik Ericsson scored less than five minutes in the game on a cross from the left by Gerson Penza to give the Saints (4-1) an early lead. Boris Kalff added to the lead before the half by scoring on a breakaway from an assist by Eoin Cassin.
The Saints put the game out of reach at the 60-minute mark when David Iafrate scored on a header in front of the goal.
The Dolphins (2-4) recorded 16 shots in the match. Senior Tommy Krizanovic, the nation's leading goal scorer, was held scoreless for the first time this season, despite recording three shots in the game.
JU returns to action on Friday as they to travel Rock Hill, S.C. for the Wingate Inn Classic. They open the tournament with host Winthrop at 7:30 p.m. before finishing on Saturday with Radford at 2 p.m.
