Men's soccer is defeated by Campbell, 3-1
Oct. 5, 2006
BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Sophomore Ramak Niakan safi scored his first goal of the season, but Campbell recorded two second-half goals to down the Jacksonville University men's soccer team, 3-1, in an Atlantic Sun Conference match on Thursday night at Eakes Athletic Complex.
"We didn't play as well as we could have tonight," said JU head coach Mike Johnson. "We had some chances to score in the game, but could capitalize. Our team also needs to work harder on defense so we can bring an balanced attack back in our game plan."
The Camels (5-5-1, 1-1-1 A-Sun) gained an early 1-0 when Richard Jata scored an unassisted goal less than 20 minutes into the match.
Nikan safi tied the game for the Dolphins (3-7-1, 1-1 A-Sun) less than a minute later by scoring on a rebound shot off the post from Anton Axelsson.
Stephen Ouyga added his second goal of the season on a header to give the Camels a 2-1 advantage five minutes into the second half.
Josh Elliot helped put the game out of reach after scoring on a pass across the box by Willy Guadarrama at the 60-minute mark.
Senior Chad Comroe recorded five saves for the Dolphins in the loss.
The Dolphins look to get back in the win column as they wrap up their road trip on Saturday against A-Sun foe Gardner-Webb in Boiling Springs, N.C., at 2 p.m.
