Men's soccer plays Mercer at home on Friday
Oct. 19, 2006
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - With two Atlantic Sun Conference matches remaining, the Jacksonville University men's soccer team will look to gain a spot in the conference tournament starting with Mercer on Friday at the Ashley Sports Complex. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
The Dolphins (4-9-1, 2-3 A-Sun) finish the A-Sun schedule on Sunday at 7 p.m. against in-state rival Stetson in DeLand, Fla.
"Friday's match is important for several reasons," said JU head coach Mike Johnson. "If we win, then we will secure a spot in the A-Sun tournament. We also want to finish our home schedule with two straight A-Sun victories.
"We will have a full complement of guys healthy on Friday. Our team has had two or three players out for every conference match and it's nice to have everyone back because they all know what is at stake."
Last week, the Dolphins broke a three-match losing streak by using three first-half goals to down Lipscomb, 4-0, on Oct, 14 at the Ashley Sports Complex.
Sophomore Ramak Niakan safi, junior Anton Axelsson and sophomore Philipp Meyner each added goals for the Dolphins in the first half, while senior Bojan Milicevic scored in the second half to secure the win. Senior Chad Comroe made three saves to earn his second shutout of the season.
