JU men’s tennis drops first A-Sun match to Stetson, 7-0
The JU men’s tennis team could never find its comfort level in a 7-0 loss to Stetson in its A-Sun opener in DeLand, Fla.
The Dolphins (2-4, 0-1 A-Sun) were unable to take a set from the Hatters (7-2, 2-0 A-Sun) in singles play while dropping all three doubles matches. “You’ve got to give them a lot of credit, they’re a great team,” said JU head coach Shane Wood. “We’re a young team and you’re going to have these learning experiences every now and then and we’re going to be a better team because of it.” Doubles play opened with three wins for the Hatters (8-4, 8-1, 8-3) and singles play saw JU struggle to keep pace. The best results turned in by the Dolphins were a loss by Hector Aguilar (6-3, 6-3) and a two-set loss by Pitt con Oertzen (6-1, 6-3). The Dolphins are back in action today against South Dakota State in Orlando, Fla.
