LEHMAN/MUNNEKE: A weekend of firsts
This last road trip was a weekend full of firsts for a lot of reasons.

To start, it was our first trip by plane as a team, and for a lot of us, our first experience in New York. It all started with an early morning as we left campus at 4 a.m. to head to the airport. We were all tired but also very excited and anxious to get to New York! When we got to the Big Apple, we first went to China Town and Canal Street, where we bargain shopped and explored the city. We had a lot of fun buying souvenirs for family and friends at home. Finally, we took a ferry to get a closer look at the Statue of Liberty. We had fun on the boat taking lots of pictures with the skyline in the background. After the ferry, we hit up the vans and drove to Connecticut where we would be playing our games for the weekend.

On Friday, we had two back-to-back matches with the first one against Dartmouth and the second one against Binghamton. Unfortunately, we lost both games on Friday but we were trying not to hang our heads and just learn from it. On Saturday, we lost our first match against Sacred Heart but finally took a win over Lehigh. We ended the tournament on a good note, however, we are still in the process of learning how to play as a team.

After the games, we drove to our new hotel in New York in order to explore the city more. We only had a half hour to get ready to go out, yet some of our teammates - including Hannah, Kendall Courtney and Niatha Cullen fell asleep and were late. As a result, they had to do the infamous “I’m a little Tea Pot” dance in front of the whole team. After their dance, we headed to Times Square and the beautiful lights at night. We got to see the St. Patrick Cathedral and its unique architecture. We also got to experience New York hot dogs and lots of yummy ice cream. Kendall enjoyed hers so much that when she dropped some of her ice cream on the streets of New York, she picked it right back up and ate it!

Another fun thing that we got to do was go to Pop Tart World, which was Coach Kupferberg’s personal favorite. While some of us were enjoying the food, others were enjoying the great shopping on 5th Avenue. After a long and exciting day, we decided to call it quits and head back to the hotel to get some sleep!

On Sunday, after getting to sleep in, we headed to Central Park. Some of us split up and headed towards the Metropolitan museum. We got to see some ancient artwork from Egypt to Greece. After that, we headed back to Canal Street where we bargain shopped some more while others went off to see more of Times Square.

Even though we didn’t do as well in our games as we hoped it was still a fun team bonding weekend. We got to do a lot of activities and had a lot of laughs along the way.
