JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Dolphins (0-9) closed out the Osprey/Dolphin Invite by hosting Mercer (3-8) on a sunny Sunday afternoon. They would drop the game, 3-10.
The two teams met just one night ago, where the Dolphins would fall to Mercer 1-12 in just five innings. The rematch went better for JU, showing significant improvement in the batter's box. Leading off the game for JU was Madison Reynolds, who hit her first homerun of the season over the left-field fence. Reynolds would score on a wild pitch just two innings later to bring the game within one run. They would score three runs on seven hits this afternoon.
Unfortunately for the Dolphins, pitching and defense could not hold up against this Mercer squad again. The Bears would score at least one run in five of seven innings, with five each given up by Whitty and Harpe. Although nothing got out of the park, it was Mercer's ability to put the ball in play that would give them the victory.
JU travels to Boca Raton on Thursday, February 24th to kick off the FAU Strikeout Cancer tournament. Their first matchup is at 1PM on Thursday as they take on Kentucky.
