Sept. 4, 2007

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - After their impressive performances in Sunday's 2-1 double-overtime victory over Loyola-Chicago, JU's senior forward Anton Axelsson and freshman goalkeeper Matt Gilman swept the Atlantic Sun "Player of the Week" awards.

Axelsson was the A-Sun's "Player of the Week" after he registered one goal and one assist against Loyola-Chicago. He opened the scoring for the Dolphins in the seventh minute after he beat his man and found the back of the net from six yards out. In the second overtime period, he fired a pass across the goal, which was put in by junior midfielder Ramak Niakan safi.

Gilman, who claimed the A-Sun's "Defensive Player of the Week" honors was forced into action after starting goalkeeper Joey Sanchez was injured against DePaul on Friday. Gilman kept the Dolphins in the game with a commanding performance-making nine saves and allowing only one goal to give him a .89 goals-against-average. Two nights earlier, Loyola-Chicago scored four goals against 2006 Big East champions Cincinnati.

"I'm very proud of both of them, they stepped up tremendously in a big game situation," said Dolphins head coach Mike Johnson. "After a tough loss on Friday, we challenged the team to step up and raise the level of both individual and team performances for the game against Loyola-Chicago. The Ramblers are the defending Horizon League champions and we've been talking about individuals stepping up in big games and making big plays. Their play was part of a whole team effort in a big win."

The Dolphins are in action again on Friday, taking on Coastal Carolina at 4 p.m. in the Furman Tournament.
