March 15, 2007

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Sophomore Jordi Ballester has made an immediate impact with the JU men's tennis team after spending the 2006 campaign at Fresno State.

In 2006, the Spain native tallied a record of 13-5 to help the Bulldogs earn a No. 46 national ranking. He continues to play well this season with a 9-3 record at the No. 1 singles position guiding the Dolphins to a 8-4 overall mark.

Ballester also became the first JU player since 2005 to earn Atlantic Sun Conference "Player of the Week" honors after earning two No. 1 singles wins against Campbell and Hampton. On March 3, he defeated the Fighting Camels' Gabriel Delarue (6-2, 7-5) before defeating Hampton's Seo-Jae Chang (6-1, 6-2) a day later. This award is also Ballester's first in his tennis career.

Ballester and the Dolphins will be back on the court Saturday as they host Lafayette at the Keith Watson Family Tennis Complex. First serve is set for 10 a.m. Another victory on Saturday will extend their winning streak to six matches.

JUDOLPHINS.COM sat down with Ballester to ask him a few questions.
