Women's Hoops to Tip-Off With Navy Nov. 18

Nov. 13, 2001

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -The Jacksonville University women's basketball team will open the program's third season against Navy on Sunday, Nov. 18 at 2 p.m. at Swisher Gymnasium. The Dolphins face a tough, five-game road swing after the opener, travelling first to Davidson and College of Charleston, then beginning Atlantic Sun Conference play against Troy State and Mercer before closing the stretch with Florida State on Dec. 7 in Tallahassee. It will be the first-ever meeting between the Dolphins and the Seminoles, who made the NCAA Tournament last season.

JU hosts will host three straight non-conference contests, first against Elon and Savannah State before taking 11 days off for the holiday and closing out the year with South Florida on Dec. 30.

In 2002, the Dolphins will resume A-Sun play by hosting Florida Atlantic, UCF and Stetson. JU tackles its toughest trip when it takes on defending A-Sun champion Georgia State and Campbell, which finished with the best record in the A-Sun last season, Jan. 12 and 14, respectively. The Dolphins welcome Samford and Jacksonville State before travelling to Belmont and Stetson.

JU plays Belmont for the second time in five days on Jan. 31 at Swisher Gym before hitting the road once again for Jacksonville State and Samford. Campbell and Georgia State visit before the Dolphins make their final road trip of the season to UCF and Florida Atlantic, and JU will finish the season at home against Mercer and Troy State.

The 2002 Atlantic Sun Tournament will be played at Trojan Arena in Troy, Ala., and will be hosted by Troy State March 7-9.

JU will be looking to improve on last season's 13-15 showing, led by Preseason Atlantic Sun All-Conference selection Kat Sungy. The Dolphins went 9-9, including a school-record six-game winning streak, to tie for fourth place in the A-Sun last year.
