Mercer Hands JU Women Fifth-Straight Loss

MACON, Ga. - Sophomore forward Yolisha Jackson (Clarksville, Tenn.) scored 19 points, including 9-of-10 from the free-throw line, but the Jacksonville women were defeated by Mercer, 76-52, Monday night at Porter Gym.

Junior forward Kat Sungy started out hot scoring six of the Dolphins' first eight points, but she finished with only nine and grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds. Freshman point guard Yvette Jackson (Sarasota, Fla.) tried to lead JU back in the second half, scoring all 11 of her points in the final frame.

Freshman center Kara Donnell, who had posted double-doubles in her last two games and 11 rebounds in each of the last three games was held to only six points and three boards.

Mercer scored the first six points of the game and never looked back. The Bears led by as many as 19 (33-14) with 2:46 remaining in the first half, before taking a 33-20 lead into the break. The Bears' final margin of victory (24) equaled their largest lead of the night.

Britt Stewart, who hit 3-of-6 from behind the arc, and Tracy Henry, who hit 8-of-16 from the floor and added eight rebounds, led the Bears with 16 points each. April Dyer hit all five of her attempts from the floor to chip in 10 points.

The Dolphins fall to 0-5 for the season and 0-2 in Atlantic Sun play, while the Bears improve to 4-2 and 1-1 in A-Sun action.

JU returns to action when it travels to Tallahassee to face Atlantic Coast Conference foe Florida State Friday, Dec. 7, at 7 p.m.
