Women's Basketball Hits the Road for First-Ever Meeting With Florida State
Dec. 6, 2001
Matchup: Jacksonville (0-5, 0-2 Atlantic Sun) at Florida State (6-1, 1-0 Atlantic Coast Conference)
The Jacksonville women's basketball team will travel to Tallahassee for its first-ever meeting with Florida State Friday at 7 p.m. at Tallahassee-Leon County Civic Center.
JU, which has lost its first five games, is led by sophomore forward Yolisha Jackson (Clarksville, Tenn.), who is averaging 14.6 points and 3.6 rebounds per contest. Jackson came within one point of her career high by scoring 19 points, including 9-of-10 from the line in a 76-52 loss to Mercer Monday night in Macon, Ga. All-conference junior forward Kat Sungy (Arvada, Colo.) is averaging 10.4 points and 9.6 rebounds per game, the second-highest mark in the Atlantic Sun. Freshman center Kara Donnell (Mattoon, Ill.) has shown flashes of greatness in her rookie campaign, pitching in with 10.2 points and 8.8 rebounds per game.
FSU, which sports a 6-1 record, is coming off a solid 87-78 victory over Georgia Tech Wednesday night in its Atlantic Coast Conference opener. April Traylor led the Seminoles with 26 points and is averaging 16.0 points per game for the season. FSU's leading scorer, Tasheika Morris, poured 20 points and is averaging 18.7 for the year. Shinikki Whiting is averaging 17.9 points and leads the Seminoles with 6.3 rebounds per game.
Other notes: Kat Sungy needs 24 points to pass Angela Walker for first place on the Dolphins' all-time scoring list... the Dolphins have outrebounded four of their first five opponents... JU has never faced an ACC opponent... FSU is 113-57 all-time against Florida schools... JU will play its next six games at home.
