Women's Basketball Falls to Stetson, 70-47

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Sophomore forward Yolisha Jackson (Clarksville, Tenn.) scored in double figures for the 11th time in 12 games for the Jacksonville women's basketball team with 12 points, and junior guard Lexie Richards (Mercer Island, Wash.) also scored 12 in the Dolphins' 70-47 loss to Stetson Tuesday night at Swisher Gymnasium.
Freshman center Kara Donnell (Mattoon, Ill.) pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds, while Kat Sungy (Arvada, Colo.) grabbed eight to lead JU to a 42-36 advantage on the glass. The Dolphins have outrebounded their opponent in eight of 12 games.
Stetson shot 41.8 percent (28-for-67) from the floor for the game. The Hatters (5-7, 4-1 Atlantic Sun) also hit 10-of-14 from the line and 4-of-14 from beyond the arc. JU shot 37.0 percent (20-for-54) for the game, 5-of-8 from the charity stripe and only 2-of-12 from long range. The Dolphins fall to 1-11, 0-5 in A-Sun play for the season.
The Dolphins got off to a fast start scoring the first seven points of the game over the first 3:29, but the Hatters answered with a 7-0 run of their own during the next three minutes. JU held its last lead at 13-12 with 8:24 left, but a 9-0 run gave Stetson an eight-point advantage with 5:35 left in the half and the Hatters cruised to a 30-16 lead at the break. Stetson held its largest lead of the night, 70-43, with 1:25 left to play.
Amy White led all scorers with 13 points to go with six rebounds, while Kristy Brown came off the bench for 10 points, six boards and three blocks - all on one possession.
The Dolphins return to action when they hit the road for a pair, first against Georgia State Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in Atlanta, followed by Campbell Monday night in Buies Creek, N.C., at 7 p.m.
