Box Score

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - JU junior guard Rebecca Montz (Erath, La.) scored a team-high 16 points in the conference-opener, while junior forward Yolisha Jackson (Clarksville, Tenn.) had 13 points and 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the season, but it wasn't enough as Kristy Brown and her Stetson teammates combined for 42 points in the paint in a 72-55 win over the Dolphins at Swisher Gymnasium Wednesday. Brown recorded a game-high 26 points and 16 rebounds for the Hatters, while shooting 10-for-18 from the field.

Senior guard Lexie Richards (Mercer Island, Wash.) had 10 points for JU, while senior guard Katie McDonald (Chandler, Ariz.) had two points and nine rebounds. Stetson (2-4, 1-0 A-Sun) opened the second half on a 10-0 run before Jackson stemmed the bleeding at 16:14 with two of her eight second half points. JU (2-4, 0-1 A-Sun) cut the lead to seven at 12:33 when Montz hit a three-pointer and followed it with a lay-up 20 seconds later to make it 47-40 Hatters. That was as close as JU would come as Stetson put together a 13-3 run to take a 62-42 lead with just over 5:00 remaining, while forcing the Dolphins into 12 second half turnovers.

The teams were knotted at 21-21 with 4:52 remaining in the first half after Meghan Ostendorf (Marietta, Ga.) hit two free throws. Stetson's Dee Matheney scored the next three points until Richards hit a deep three-pointer to knot the game at 24-24 with 3:49 left. Once again the teams traded scores with Brown hitting a lay-up and Montz sinking a pair of free throws, but it was freshman Chamara Warrick (Jacksonville, Fla.) who broke the deadlock, giving the Dolphins a 28-27 lead late. Stetson replied for two and Montz answered back with a quick jumper, but the Hatters seized control in the final minute, embarking on a 4-0 run to take a 33-30 lead into the half.

JU travels to Fordham on Saturday, Dec. 20 for a 5:00 p.m. game with the Rams.
