Women's Basketball Falls to UNC Asheville, 64-41

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - JU junior forward Yolisha Jackson (Clarksville, Tenn.) had eight points, while sophomore guard Sheena Carpenter (Augusta, Ga.) had seven points but it wasn't enough to overcome a 32-15 run over the final 18:00 minutes as UNC Asheville defeated the Dolphins, 64-41 Monday night at Swisher Gymnasium.

JU (2-6) freshman center Talia Johnson (Sardis, Ga.) recorded a career-high three blocks in her first collegiate start while also adding three rebounds, while UNC Asheville senior center Tonisha Jackson led all scorers with 14 points while recording three blocks. Trailing by nine points with 18:06 remaining in the game, JU senior guard Katie McDonald (Chandler, Ariz.) hit a three-pointer to make it 32-26, but the Bulldogs responded 20 seconds later when Jackson's bucket sparked a 13-0 UNC Asheville run as the Bulldogs built a 45-26 lead.

UNC Asheville (7-3) stayed one step ahead of JU in the early going until the Dolphins tied the score at 11 midway through the first half thanks to five points from Jackson. The Bulldogs pulled ahead 20-13 at the 7:03 mark, but two points from Carpenter and McDonald, and a three-pointer from junior guard Rebecca Montz (Erath, La.) brought the Dolphins to within 21-20 with 4:24 remaining in the half. The Bulldgos answered with a 7-3 run to end the half and take a 30-23 lead into the intermission.

JU will begin play in 2004 against A-Sun rival Florida Atlantic on Saturday, Jan. 3 at 2 p.m. at Swisher Gymnasium.
