Women's Basketball Struggles Against Campbell in 71-49 Loss

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - JU junior guard Rebecca Montz (Erath, La.) had 12 points, while senior guard Katie McDonald (Chandler, Ariz.) had 11 points, but 20 second chance points for Campbell contributed to a 71-49 loss Thursday night at Carter Gymnasium. The loss is JU's (2-14, 0-9 A-Sun) 12th in a row, while Campbell (5-11, 3-6 A-Sun) claimed its second consecutive conference victory.
JU doubled its first half total and cut Campbell's lead to 11 to trail 40-29 at 11:58, after scoring a season-low 14 points in the first stanza. The Lady Camels rebounded to outscore the Dolphins 13-4 and pull ahead 53-33 with 7:41 remaining.
JU shot 0-for-8 to start the first half until senior guard Katie McDonald scored the Dolphins' first points to make it 2-2 at 14:07. Junior guard Rebecca Montz hit from long range to put JU ahead, 5-2, before the Lady Camels put together a 13-2 run to lead 15-7 at 6:50. Montz hit another three-pointer, capping a 7-1 JU rally and making it 16-14 Campbell, but the Lady Camels responded with a three, while junior forward Yolisha Jackson and freshman center Talia Johnson picked up her third personal fouls in the middle of a 12-0 Campbell run.
The Dolphins face Gardner-Webb on Saturday, January 31 at 6 p.m. in Boiling Springs, N.C.
