Women's Basketball Falters in Second Half at Gardner-Webb in 70-50 Loss

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - JU junior forward Yolisha Jackson (Clarksville, Tenn.) had a game-high 15 points, while adding 10 rebounds, but it wasn't enough as Gardner-Webb outscored the Dolphins 44-27 in the second half in a 70-50 loss Saturday night in Porter Arena. Sophomore guard Sheena Carpenter (Augusta, Ga.) added 11 points and six rebounds.

The loss is JU's (2-15, 0-10 A-Sun) 13th in a row, while Gardner-Webb (3-14, 2-8 A-Sun) snaps its own three game losing streak.

JU bridged the intermission with an 8-0 run to lead 27-26 at 16:48 of the second half, while holding the Bulldogs scoreless for 6:36. Gardner-Webb finally scored at 15:37 to kick off a 35-7 run that spanned 10 minutes to lead 61-34 at 4:16.

Jackson scored seven of her 11 first half points in an 11-2 JU run to put the Dolphins ahead at 13:35. The Bulldogs responded with a 10-0 run that was broken with back-to-back baskets from Jackson, giving JU a 15-12 lead with 7:31 remaining in the half. With the score knotted at 19-19, Gardner-Webb connected on three-straight three-pointers in a 10-0 run to pull ahead 26-19 at 2:13.

The Dolphins take on Stetson Thursday, Feb. 5 at 5 p.m. in DeLand, Fla. The game will be televised on the Sunshine Network.
