Women's Basketball Loses to Gardner-Webb, 75-60

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Junior forward Yolisha Jackson (Clarksville, Tenn.) had 14 points and eight rebounds for her fourth double-digit scoring game in a row, but Gardner-Webb overpowered the Dolphins with 43 second-half points in a 75-60 defeat Monday evening at Swisher Gymnasium.
The loss is JU's (2-18, 0-13 A-Sun) 16th in a row, while Gardner-Webb (4-16, 3-10 A-Sun) earns its first A-Sun road victory in program history.
Gardner-Webb led by 13 with 7:55 remaining in the second half when Carpenter hit a jumper and followed it with a fast break lay-up off a Gardner-Webb turnover to ignite a 9-3 JU run and close the deficit to 56-49 with 5:27 to play. The Bulldogs responded with a 7-0 run to pull ahead 63-49 at 3:51 and maintained their double-digit lead for the rest of the game.
Jackson and freshman center Talia Johnson (Sardis, Ga.) hit back-to-back jumpers to start the second half, sparking an 8-0 Dolphin run and cutting a 10-point halftime deficit to 32-30 with 17:04 remaining, before Gardner-Webb put together a 19-10 run to lead, 53-40 at 7:55. JU shot just 24 percent in the first half and trailed by as many as 13 points before the intermission.
JU plays the first of two road games at Mercer on Thursday, Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. before facing Georgia State on Saturday, Feb. 14 at 8 p.m. Saturday's game against Georgia State will be broadcast live on Comcast Sports Southeast.
