July 23, 2004

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville University women's basketball team added to its 2004 signing class by inking 5-foot-10 shooting guard Edita Brbutovic (Sweden), who led Sweden to a fifth-place finish at the Olympic Youth games in Spain and a spot in the qualifying round of the European Championships, to a National Letter of Intent. Brbutovic will join 5-foot-6 guard Natalie Emmanuelli (Orlando, Fla.) and 5-foot-7 shooting guard Takina Alford (Griffin, Ga.), who signed with the program last month.

A 2004 graduate of Sanda High School in Huskvarna, Sweden, Brbutovic was a three-year member of the Swedish Junior National Team. This past season, she was a member of the Högsbo Basket club team in Götenborg, Sweden. For Högsbo, a member of the Damligan (Sweden's highest women's basketball league), Brbutovic led the squad in scoring with 16.0 points per game while also averaging 9.0 rebounds per contest. In 2003, she was a member of the Brahe Basket club team in Huskvarna, Sweden. Despite being the youngest player in the Damligan League, Brbutovic averaged 11.0 points per game.

Brbutovic began her playing career with the West Winds (WW) club team and was a member for five years. During that time, she was a four-time MVP selection and a five-time all-star selection at the Swedish Championships for players born prior to 1984.

The Dolphins open the 2004-05 season under the direction of first-year head coach Jill Dunn on Saturday, Nov. 13, at 2 p.m. with an exhibition game against Rollins College at Swisher Gym.
